Semiotic Study Of American Chick Flicks

"chick flick" is a new type of movie that adapts to the current consumer society and consumer culture.it has become popular in the world after the birth of British and American countries.it is considered to embody women's pursuit of self-awareness.This article takes film semiotics as the academic framework and theoretical basis,and takes American "chick flicks" as the research object.Sorting out the "chick flicks" in the research of the emergence stage,through sorting out various researches of the "chick flicks" at the present stage,this paper puts forward some targeted problems: the analysis of female roles only stays at the image level,the research on the narrative structure of the "chick flicks" does not jump out of the category of genre films,and the film's identification with new feminism is excessively exaggerated.Then,Metz's second movie semiotics is applied to the text to reinterpret the above-mentioned problems and analyze the symbolic characteristics and signifier connotation of "chick movie".At the same time,psychoanalysis and other theories are applied to analyze the audience's psychological mechanism of watching movies and the illusion of self-identity under the mirror image.The purpose is to further explore the meaning of "chick movies",to make up for the shortcomings of traditional theories in studying "chick movies",and to explore whether "chick movies" really embody women's consciousness,whether the status of women in movies has changed,or whether only the cultural industry caters to women's consumption,but in essence it is still the subject being stared at.This paper mainly divides the symbol system of "chick movie" into character symbol,narrative symbol and consumption symbol.The research finds that "chick" in "chick movie" as a classic character is actually full of mirror image opposition and does not fully reflect the independence and strong self-consciousness of women.There is a phenomenon of sex solidification in the action element model of "chick movie".The roles are consistent in their functions.The action element model has always been balanced and stable,which is also the reason why the narrative is weak.Finally,the "chick flick" portrays women as the desire subject in business logic through consumption symbols,but it is not the subject in the gender politics sense.In essence,it attempts to satisfy the desire of others through one alternative signifier after another.In addition,corresponding theoretical suggestions and reflections are also put forward for each part of the problems.Finally,a brief review and summary of the research conclusions of this paper are made,and expectations for the future development of "chick flicks" are expressed.
