British musician Vaughn Williams is a famous composer and conductor in the early 20 th century.Williams has a wide range of genres,including symphonies,concertos,mass,art songs and operas.As one of the representative figures of British folk music school,he attaches great importance to British folk music,often collates and collects English folk songs,and his love and study of folk music make his creation have distinct British national characteristics and strong British national spirit.Therefore,he is regarded as the most British native style composer with high research value."Whither Must I wander?" is the seventh in Williams' song cycle of vocal music " Songs Of Travel," which shows a lonely wanderer's rich spiritual world in a dramatic way,extremely emotional tension,full of romantic humanistic feelings.This paper focuses on the following parts of the song "Whither Must I wander?".The first part gives a brief introduction to the vocal ensemble and the author of "Songs Of Travel" and its lyrics;the second part deeply understands the work and summarizes its background and artistic features;and the third part completes the song "Whither Must I wander?".This paper analyzes the main idea,structure,tonality,piano accompaniment and melody of the song.The fourth part is the focus of the analysis,combined with my own learning and singing experience,this paper makes a singing analysis of the art song " Whither Must I Wander?".In order to provide reference for singing similar foreign art songs.
