Vocabulary is the basis of language learning.Vocabulary learning can promote the improvement of comprehensive language ability.However,studies show that Chinese students' vocabulary learning is a weak link in English learning.According to the current situation of English vocabulary teaching,the researcher put forward two research questions:(1)What are the effects of mutimodal teaching approach on primary school students' vocabulary learning?(2)What are the solutions to reduce the students' spelling mistakes rate in the process of multimodal Teaching?56 students from one normal class in Grade 6 of Jiulong primary school were selected as the research subject.English textbook in Grade 6 of people's education press was adopted as the teaching material.There are four steps in the two round action researches: identifying research problems,making the action plan,implementing the action plan and the evaluation and reflection.In the process of the two round action researches,this paper focuses on the application of multimodal teaching mode on vocabulary teaching,inputting vocabulary teaching strategies,introducing the cultural background of words,and designing a variety of classroom activities.Through observation,questionnaire,and interview to explore the problems in the process of using multimodal teaching,the test to explore the impact of multimodal teaching on students' vocabulary learning.There are two major findings after two-month action research: Multimodal teaching mode can improve students' interest and ability in vocabulary learning,enhance their memory of words and improve their ability of using words.After the first round of action research,some problems are found,the fancy content of vcourseware will distract students' attention,students' spelling error rate is not reduced significantly,vocabulary teaching strategies are ignored.In the second round of action research,through adjusting the form of courseware,strengthening the practice of word dictation,and introducing vocabulary learning strategies,the problems in the process of using multimodal teaching are solved effectively.There are still some limitations in this research,such the limitation of the time and the small samples can be improved in the future research.
