A Case Study On English Continuation Task Teaching In Senior High School

In order to cultivate students’ comprehensive language ability,in 2017,the continuation task was used in the college entrance examination of pilot provinces for comprehensive reform.Later,with the promotion of comprehensive reform pilots of college entrance examination,it would be used nationwide.Aiming at the early stage of teaching reform,the study aims to explore how teachers play a role in the process of continuation task teaching so as to ensure that students’ comprehensive language ability is improved.The researcher,taking continuation task teaching of an English teacher in a provincial key high school of Shenyang as an example,carried out an in-depth study.The study finds that according to continuation task teaching,the teacher makes students have the ability to grasp the key information and language features of the passage accurately,and at the same time apply them to compositions;makes students consciously use more vocabulary and language structures in their compositions;makes students’ compositions obey logical relations in the context;also makes students’ compositions rich and innovative.It can be seen from this that students’ comprehensive language ability is improved to some extent.There are also deficiencies in the teacher’s teaching of continuation task.First,the teacher fails to strengthen the interaction between students and reading materials,limiting the development of students’ language coordination ability.Second,the teacher doesn’t train the students to use vocabulary and grammar adequately,not conducive to improve the accuracy of students’ language expression.Third,the teacher lacks explanation on connectors,making students’ composition structures not compact enough.Therefore,the researcher puts forward the following suggestions: first,teachers should build up students’ sense of coordination and enhance the interaction between students and texts;second,teachers should combine the explanation and training of vocabulary and grammar;third,teachers should enrich students’ accumulation of connectors,and increase the frequency of using them.
