| English writing teaching is indispensable in senior high school English teaching,however,it is not attached great importance.As a new writing method,the continuation task attracts much attention of the researchers.This study focused on the effect of the continuation task on senior high school students as well as the enlightenment in teaching writing.In this study,two questions need to be answered: 1.Can the continuation task improve lexical diversity in English writing of senior high school students? Are there any differences in the effect of continuation task on the lexical diversity in regard to learners with different writing levels? 2.Can the continuation task improve language complexity and language fluency in English writing of senior high school students? The empirical study was conducted in a senior high school in Xinjiang.D-tools,Web-based L2 Syntactic Complexity Analyzer and SPSS were used to analyze the data and the conclusions were drawn.The result of the study shows that:1.The continuation task can improve the high school students’ lexical diversity significantly.After using the continuation task,there is not a significant difference between students from different writing levels.However,the students with medium level have the most significant development in lexical diversity.2.Compared with traditional approach,the continuation task can improve the language complexity significantly,especially in the aspect of using clauses and the change of the number of T-unit.As for the language fluency,both methods can improve the fluency,but the continuation task has a significant improvement in fluency.The students’ intention for create a new story and the writing habits changed greatly.The quantity of production increased.We suggest that teachers should provide students with more room for creating compositions.Different writing methods are recommended to the teacher in order to stimulate the students’ interest toward writing.The depth of processing the writing vocabulary,phrases and syntactic structure should be taken into consideration in order to help students to improve their writing performances.This study expects to provide the research of continuation task with the data from this region,thus to contribute for the development of this research. |
