Han Song is an outstanding representative of the new generation of science fictions writers in China and enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. His works reveal a kind of “anxiety over the doomed future”,focusing on the alienation and survival of human beings against the backdrop of social and scientific and technological advancement. This thesis selects Han's latest works,Hospitals,Exorcism, and Ghosts, which are commonly recognized as “the trilogy of hospitals” as the research subject. From the perspective of modernity, the author interprets Han Song' concern and worries about the future of human destiny, and the hidden dangers triggered by human worship for science and technologies, then the author analyzes deep-seated reasons behind and tries to arouse humans' consciousness about dangers and risks that technologies bring about so as to make people stay alert on existential issues in the future. This paper is divided into six parts. The introduction mainly introduces Han Song and his works, combs the research on his literary creation at home and abroad and points out the social significance of the research. The second part is a theoretical review of modernity. This paper states the origin and development of modernity, expounds the main concepts of modernity theory, and points out the relationship between modernity theory and science fictions. The third part puts forward the question: In the future Han Song described, medical technologies are highly advanced, which affect humans' life in all respects, while the excessive dependence on technologies has caused the loss of human reason, initiative, freedom as well as human dignity.Technologies are no longer made to serve human, instead, they become roots of human sufferings. As a result, the original harmonious technology-human relation has come to an end.As the world and human society have been alienated and lost their rationality, human beings living in this circumstance will inevitably be alienated.Human beings are faced with an unprecedented crisis of survival, all of which are due to the expansion of scientific and technological reason and the contradiction between science and technology and humanity. The fourth part analyzes the reasons for the formation of the problems mentionedin former chapter. In Han Song's Hospital series,Humans' use of science and technology has evolved into the control of science and technology over human beings, resulting in human alienation. At the same time, human's extreme worship for medical science and technology has led to the loss of social reason. Finally, human's self-discarding and the state of oblivion of existence lead to the concealment of their own values. The fifth part puts forward solutions from three dimensions according to the understanding of Han Song's trilogy. In the future, the society should establish a harmonious coexistence relationship between human beings and science and technology, and a benign relationship in which science and technology assist human beings to explore the world. At the same time, human beings need to maintain subjectivity, rebuild a reasonable social system and human dignity. The sixth part reaches to a conclusion and makes a brief summary of the whole thesis, and reflects on the limitations while composing this thesis.Through the representation of Han Song's pessimistic narration,it can be seen that Han Song is expressing hopes under the guise of despair;meanwhile,he's exploring various possibilities of the future society, which shows his deep concern about the fate of mankind.
