The Study Of The Variants In The Chaozhou Gece

The Chaozhou Gece,the copy for the record of the folk art in the Chaoshan area,is a precious and important material for studying written languages of Ming and Qing dynasties.The book is written in Chaoshan dialect,with using a large number of valuable,rich and varied variants.The aim of this research is to study the types and formation of these variants.This thesis uses Chaozhou Songs Volume,including seventy volumes of the Rare Old-Fashioned Quyiqu Series,as the basic corpus.Based on literature survey method,this thesis employs multiple research methods,including quantitative and qualitative methods,diachronic and synchronic comparison methods,etc.Additionally,this thesis takes into account both paper materials and online database.The structure of the thesis is as follows:The first chapter is an introduction part to Chaozhou Songs.In this chapter,we review the previous researches on Chaozhou Songs and on variants.Also,we discuss research methods employed in this thesis,and our research findings.The second chapter,"The Classification of Variant Characters in Chaozhou Gece,clarifies the definition of variant characters.And then,we classify different forms of the collected variant characters in Chaozhou Gece.Chapter Three,"Selected Explanation of the Causes of Variant Characters in the Chaozhou Gece selects several typical variant characters that are common in the Chaozhou Gece.Based on the classification of variants forms we discussed in the previous chapter,this chapter explore the formation of variants in Chaozhou Gece.The fourth chapter,"Common Features of Variant Characters in Ming and Qing Dynasties from the Chaozhou Gece,compares the variant characters in Chaozhou Gece with that in " Fiction Dictionary of Novels in Ming and Qing Dynasties ".Moreover,we summarize Common characteristics of the variant characters in both Chaozhou Gece and even the variant characters in Ming and Qing folk literature.Chapter 5 gives conclusion.In this chapter,we sum up the main findings and the contribution of this research.We also discuss the deficiencies of the thesis and the direction of future efforts.
