A Report On Term Translation In Auto-News Based On Newmark's Text Typology Theory

Nowadays,the automotive industry is developing rapidly,and more and more companies and individuals are following the dynamics of the automotive industry.In this context,the media in the automotive industry has also grown.Automotive news(here in after referred to as auto-news)translation is one essential tool for foreign news importing and local news broadcasting.Based on the author's translation practice,how to identify and translate an auto term in auto-news are analyzed in this report.The author hopes this report will be of help to later auto-news translation.According to Newmark's text typology theory,auto-news is a kind of informative text.Newmark points out that we should stick to the principles of factuality,objectivity and accuracy.Therefore,we should also follow the three principles when translating terms in auto-news.Since the expansion of auto-news reader groups,the news are required to be easy to understand as it is supposed to be read by everyone.Therefore,readability and conciseness are proposed as additional principles.Based on the features of auto-news,accuracy,readability and conciseness are the three major principles for term translation in this translation task.This report asserts that term identification is a very important preliminary condition for term translation.The two stages involved in term identification are: to strengthen the sense of terminology,and to master certain skills.Examples are then given to illustrate how to identify a term by making good use of verb indicator,noun indicator,and capitalization indicator.Finally,this report uses examples to summarize translation methods for terms in auto-news,including zero translation,definition method,addition method,and some skills when using literal translation and free translation,such as word selection and word transformation.
