It is reported that second language(L2)learners often make errors of appropriacy during intercultural communication. As the primary sources of input for them in China,English textbooks and teachers' teaching have great influence on developing learners' pragmatic competence. Thus, the analysis of language input in textbooks and the investigation on teachers' pragmatic awareness and teaching behavior may be beneficial in finding the existing problems of pragmatic teaching and exploring a more effective way for it.Among all the speech acts provided, directives are one of the most ubiquitous type. The appropriate use of them can help L2 learners avoid impoliteness in cross-cultural interaction. Therefore, this article investigates the presentation and distribution of directives in dialogues and compares the language usage in Ren' ai Project English with those in Native Speakers' corpus by using various tables. In addition, ample examples as well as pictures are adopted to analyze the compilation of context,meta-pragmatic information and character relationships in coursebooks.Apart from that, questionnaire is employed to explore whether teachers have realized the defects in textbooks and whether they added extracurricular materials to develop their students' pragmatic competence. At last, some implications for Textbook Compilation and EFL Teaching are drawn for the better development of L2 learners' pragmatic competence.
