A Study On The Difficulty Of The Corpus Of Chinese Graded Reading "Chinese Breeze"

Abstract/Summary:
This paper mainly examines the corpus difficulty of "Chinese Breeze" from three perspectives,and makes a contrastive analysis of the reading material with "practical Chinese".Character: On the difficulty of Chinese characters,the difficulty level of Chinese characters in the same level of reading materials is comparatively consistent;the higher the level of reading materials,the greater the difficulty of Chinese characters;the more consistent the increase of the difficulty of Chinese characters.On the level of Chinese characters,the first three levels of reading materials have a higher proportion of Grade A characters;with the increase of the level of reading materials,the proportion of Grade A characters decreases,and the proportion of Grade B characters and Grade C characters increases.In terms of basic words,the higher the level of reading materials,the more the number of basic words;the higher the proportion of basic words;the higher the proportion of common words in basic words.Vocabulary: on lexical difficulty,the lexical difficulty level of the same level of reading materials is the same;the higher the level of reading materials,the greater the lexical difficulty;the smaller the increase of lexical difficulty.On the lexical level,the proportion of the first-class words and the second-class words in the reading materials is relatively high,which is the main vocabulary of the reading materials.With the increase of the reading level,the proportion of the first-class words decreases and the proportion of the second-class words increases,and the change range is large.In terms of basic words,the number of basic words in reading materials is close to the vocabulary set by reading materials;the higher the level of reading materials,the more the number of basic words;the higher the proportion of basic words;the higher the proportion of common words in basic words.Text difficulty: the same level of reading text difficulty is more consistent;the higher the level of reading,the higher the text difficulty;the same degree of increase in text difficulty,the higher the level of reading,the higher the text readability score 5;questionnaire survey found that reader’s judgment of text difficulty and text readability score are consistent.The comparative analysis of the two sets of reading materials shows that the difficulty of the corpus in Chinese Breeze is generally lower than that in Practical Chinese,and the use of characters and words and the difficulty of text in Chinese Breeze can better reflect the characteristics of graded reading materials.
