A Project Report On Translating The Core Science Of Endodontic(Excerpt)

The international communication and cooperation in medical field becomes more frequent between China and the West countries.Due to the dominant position of Western medicine in modern medicine,translation of medical literatures from English to Chinese is of great significance for China’s learning and promotion of advanced medical technologies.This report is based on the E-C translation of The Core Science of Endodontics.Based on the main features of medical texts,this report mainly analyzes medical terms in source text,the translation of long and complex sentences,and the translation of passive voice.As for medical terms,the author focuses on professional medical terms and selection of words meanings.For translating long and complex sentence,the author uses translation methods like division,conversion and addition.Passive voice is commonly used in medical text.Hence,in this report,the author also discusses the preservation and conversion of passive voice during the translation.This report demonstrates that when handling medical text,translators should initially collect related background knowledge for understanding the source text.Next,translator should analyze the language features of the source text so as to adopt feasible translation methods and skills accordingly with the intention of delivering the translation in more accurate and acceptable expressions.
