The Correction And Supplement For The Epitaphs Of Emperor Tang Gaozong From Qianfeng To Xianheng Period (666-674)

The Tang Dynasty was one of the most glorious dynasties in the history of China.It was a powerful,economically prosperous and culturally brilliant dynasty,which attracted the attention of scholars.As unearthed documents,epitaphs have unique research value such as objectivity and accuracy.They are different from other unearthed documents in content and form and have irreplaceable research significance.As one of the outstanding representatives,the Tang Dynasty epitaphs are abundant in quantity,and their contents include politics,culture,custom,official position,surname,rules and regulations and so on.Therefore,the Tang Dynasty epitaphs are favored by the majority of scholars,and the research results are quite fruitful.However,owing to the inheritance of Emperor Taizong of Tang’s reign and the legacy of Wu Zetian’s reign in the Emperor Gaozong of Tang period,few scholars have studied the epitaph of Emperor Gaozong of Tang’s reign,and the research results are scattered.In addition,because the epitaph of the Tang Dynasty has a history of more than 1,000 years,affected by natural and human factors,the epitaph or damaged,or the handwriting is not legible,posterity in the interpretation of the Epitaph of the Tang Dynasty is limited to their level of knowledge,level of care,and so on,questions such as unrecording the glyphs of the rubbings,misinterpreting them without recognizing the different glyphs,or misrecording,missing recordings,missing characters,and incorrect punctuations.Therefore,it is of great significance to systematize and study the Tang Dynasty epitaphs of Emperor Gaozong of Tang period.This paper takes more than 500 epitaphs of emperor Tang Gaozong from Qianfeng to Xianheng period as the research object.According to the New General Catalogue of Epitaphs of the Tang Dynasty,collect as many records as possible of each epitaph,select the one with the highest quality as the base,proofread the epitaph,and use the others as calibration and reference,to put out and correct the unrecording the glyphs of the rubbings,misinterpreting them without recognizing the different glyphs,or misrecording,missing recordings,missing characters,and incorrect punctuations.At the same time,a comprehensive collection of the different types of glyphs in this period was compiled into the "Table of the variant glyphs of epitaphs in the Emperor Tang Gaozong from Qianfeng to Xianheng Year" as an appendix,in order to provide reference material of glyphs.Structurally,this article is divided into four parts.The first chapter,"Introduction",mainly explains the research object,research background and current situation,research ideas and methods of this article.The second chapter,"Examination and Interpretation of the Difficult and Customary Characters of the Epitaph of the Emperor Tang Gaozong from Qianfeng to Xianheng Years,is divided into two parts,"Examination of unexplained characters" and "Examination of misinterpreted characters".The third chapter,"Essays and Corrections of the Epitaph of the Emperor Tang Gaozong from Qianfeng to Xianheng Years",includes four parts,"The correction of the misrecordings","The correction of the missing recordings","The correction of missing characters" and "The correction of missing points".Finally,the appendix "Table of the variant glyphs of epitaphs in the Emperor Tang Gaozong from Qianfeng to Xianheng Year".
