Su Shi's Poetry And Literary Research On Science And Technology

As a representative of the encyclopedic literati in the Song Dynasty,Su Shi's literary works of various types have been studied separately by scholars.However,works involving scientific and technological content have always received little attention,and these works have both cultural and historical values,which are of great significance to the local cultural construction and the improvement of scientific and technological historical materials.This dissertation will take the more than 240 poems and essays related to science and technology written by Su Shi as the object,and carry out the research from the main perspective of literature through the methods of literature research,interdisciplinary research,and literary interpretation,in an attempt to explore some neglected values.This dissertation is divided into three chapters.The first chapter first sorts out the development of science and technology before the Song Dynasty,introduces the general situation of the Northern Song Dynasty as the peak period for the development of science and technology in ancient China.Then,the author makes a brief analysis on the important literati who participated in the scientific and technological activities at that time,and summarizes the views of the academic community on the relationship between "Tao" and "Technology",which is the basis for understanding how science and technology influenced Su Shi.The second chapter mainly focuses on the scientific and technological attributes of Su Shi's poems and writings,and discusses the scientific and technological concepts presented in his works,such as attaching importance to practice,respecting nature,inheriting the Taoist spirit of "experiment" and the limitations of imagistic thinking.The author also introduces the important scientific and technological knowledge contained in his works from the aspects of astronomy,geography,physics,chemistry and biology.The third chapter mainly focuses on the literary characteristics of Su Shi's poetry and prose involving scientific and technological content,which is also the focus of this paper.First of all,this paper analyzes the commonness and individuality of the three characteristics of argumentation,colloquialism and banter in Su Shi's poems and writings related to science and technology and the literature of Song Dynasty.Then,three characteristics of Su Shi's image are extracted from his poems and articles related to science and technology,that is,concern about people's livelihood,noble medical ethics and attention to practice.Finally,through the analysis of representative works,it explains how he depicts the elements of science and technology with poetic touch through the integration of narrative and imagination,which is also the most prominent artistic feature of Su Shi's science and technology poems.Through the study of his poems and essays related to science and technology,we can find two characteristics in Su Shi,namely,the spirit of seeking knowledge actively in exploring the world and the sense of mission of the traditional Confucian scholars to benefit the people,which enriched his unrestrained and uninhibited image of "literary giant" in the cognition of the public.
