Susan Bassnett probed into the relationship between language and culture in her book Translation Studies published in 1980,and the cultural translation view involved is the essence of her translation thought. In her view, translation is by no means a pure linguistic act,but deeply rooted in the culture in which the language is located. In translation, culture should be regarded as the basic unit of translation to realize the exchange of different culture. In order to achieve this goal, the translator should consciously give full play to creativity rather than just rely on a specific translation method, and try his best to achieve the cultural equivalence between the original text and the target text.In an era when Chinese culture is gradually stepping to the world with each passing day,the translation of local cultural text also plays a vital role for local culture to go abroad.By reading the translation, foreign readers can learn different foreign cultures and acquire a deeper understanding of China. Therefore, the view of cultural translation is of great importance in guiding the translation of this type of text. This paper is guided by Susan Bassnett's cultural translation view and takes History of Wenchangli as the source text to carry out the Chinese-English translation practice. This report expounds in detail the process of pre-translation,during and post translation, and through a case study, how to choose and apply translation strategies under the guidance of the cultural translation view to solve the practical problems of cultural transmission and acceptance is discussed. This report mainly draws on the experience of cultural translation from the translation of ancient Chinese official titles, characteristic place names, local customary and cultural words and ancient Chinese poems, then provides guidance for future translation. This study draws the following conclusions: First, regarding culture as the basic unit of translation can convey the cultural connotation of the text to the greatest extent.Second, the cultural translation view provides the translator great freedom of translation. In the face of different types of cultural elements, translation methods can be selected flexibly, and the ultimate purpose is to realize the acceptability of cultural texts.Third, the main translation strategies under the guidance of cultural translation view are domestication, transliteration plus annotations, literal translation, literal translation plus annotations, translator's creativity and so on.Fourth, before translating cultural texts, adequate preparations should be made to ensure the accuracy of cultural connotations in order to achieve the best results.
