Frederic Francois Chopin(1810—1849)was a composer of the romantic period.His works are mainly for piano solo,which are compulsory courses for every student majoring in piano performance.Nowadays,the market is full of different versions of music scores,and there are a number of differences among these scores,so that the performance of Chopin varies greatly.While the author learning Chopin sonata b-flat minor,Op.35,she used three versions,German version which was published in leipzig Germany in 1840,French version which was edited by the French pianist Alfred Cortot(1877—1962)in 1930 and Polish national version,and found that there are big differences among the three versions,and even appeared in the first bar in the first movement.At present,the study on the score versions of Chopin's works has not been paid much attention,especially on the score version of the sonata in b-flat minor,Op.35 and more emphasis has been placed on the analysis of the performance versions.As we all know,in piano performance,every sentence division,every stress arrangement,even the use of each pedal can produce different musical effects,so every detail is so important,especially for a composer as rigorous as Chopin.George sang(1804 — 1876)recalled Chopin's creative process,describing how he played with every note and reworked every detail.In addition,the longtime Paris-based Chopin often published new works simultaneously in France,Germany and Britain,and all three presses had their own standards for proofs,which making the final editions slightly different from each other.The author found that differences in the first movement of sonata b-flat minor,Op.35 are mainly concentrated in the sentence divisions,pedal,and expressions through compared the Chopin student and friend Adolphe Gutmann's(1819—1882)copy version,German version released in 1840 in the city of leipzig,French version edited by pianist Alfred Cortot in 1930,and Polish national version which is currently used by each conservatory of music for studying.Besides,among the four versions,the Polish national version is more objective,authoritative and more in line with the composer's characteristics and intention.This paper is divided into two parts.In the first part,the author mainly introduces the era and living background of Chopin when he composed the sonata,and briefly introduces the structure of the sonata and the overview of the four versions.In the second part,the author will find out the differences and similarities,through comparing the four versions of the first movement,combining with the feature of the sonata form,according to Chopin's characteristic and the background of Chopin when composing this sonata,referencing themethod of playing the romantic period of music,using literature research,comparative analysis and interdisciplinary research,and attempt to discuss the the objectivity,authenticity,of Polish national version for the study of Chopin and the skills of playing his work.
