Extended cognition is an important issue in the philosophy of cognitive science. In 1998,Andy Clark and David Chalmers proposed in the paper "The extended mind" a proof of cognitive extension based on the principle of equivalence of causal coupling. The principle of equivalence holds that if the external process of cognition plays the same role as the internal process, then the external process of cognition can be equated with the internal process. In other words, the boundaries of cognition should not be inside the skull, and external cognitive tools should also be counted as part of the cognitive process.Clark and Chalmers’ arguments were heavily criticized. The internalists, led by Fred Adams and Ken Aizawa, proposed the fallacy of coupling constitutions, arguing that the extension of the cognitive argument mistakenly confuses coupling with constitutions, and causality does not lead to constitutional relations.Cognition must include non-derived cognitive mark theory. It can be seen from this that the theoretical dilemma of extended cognition lies mainly in the differences in the content of internal processes and external processes, and in the logical form of causality and constitutive relations.Menari’s theory of cognitive integration negates the causal coupling argumentation method and proposes an argumentation path for cognitive integration. In terms of content, cognitive integration theory does not pay attention to the differences between internal processes and external processes.Logically, cognitive integration theory believes that internal subjects are a normative manipulation of the external environment.Cognitive integration theory can effectively resolve the controversial issues of cognitive boundaries. At the same time, cognitive integration emphasizes the role of cultural evolution. It puts cognitive theory in the context of cultural evolution, and studies the transformation of cognitive abilities to extend cognition.Give practical proof. In the process of cultural evolution, people’scognitive ability has really changed through cognitive practice, not just a theoretical assumption. This article first attempts to clarify the argumentation principle of extended cognition. The argumentation theory of cognitive integration counters the attack of innerism on the composition of coupling and cognitive marks;secondly,it systematically sorts out Menare’s integration theory from biological coupling Cognitive integration is comprehensively interpreted from three perspectives, cognitive practice and cultural trends. It demonstrates the integration of subject and external representation in the cognitive process, and the evolution and transformation of cognitive abilities. Finally, three new directions are proposed for the development of extension theory, including the integrated definition of cognition, the dynamic coupling perspective of cognition, and the turn of cognitive culture. This article considers that cognitive integration theory is a stronger theory of cognitive extension, which can defend extended cognition.
