A Study Of Migrant-workers’ Poetry From The Perspective Of Time And Space

As an important literary phenomenon in contemporary China,migrant-workers’ poetry has vividly showed the living circumstances,spiritual state and mental journey of the bottom individual when they move from countryside to city.It also deeply intervenes in the historical writing of China in the transitional period.Specific literary phenomena arises from specific era background and specific living space.Therefore,this thesis aims to analyse migrant-workers’ poetry from two angles:tradition and present,city and countryside.It will also make a holistic observation of migrant-workers’ poetry from the perspective of time and space and evaluate it historically and dynamically.The thesis consists of three parts.Chapter One introduces the time and space background of the emergence of migrant-workers’ poetry,which mainly thinks that migrant-workers’ poetry is directly related to the traditional and modern fission,as well as the complex experience of space replacement between urban and rural in the transitional period of China.Chapter two analyses the temporal and spatial expression of migrant-workers’ poetry in specific texts.From the perspective of time,the migrant-poets have produced a new way of sensing time which is different from the traditional society.This kind of feeling has resulted in the distinct "presence" and " record" in their works;From the perspective of space,the migrant-poets leave their hometown,live in the village in the city,and are settled at the bottom of the society.They suffer from the rejection of urban space as well as the loss of rural space at the same time.This kind of suspension and anxiety of identity is an important source of the pain in migrant-workers’ poetry.Chapter Three focuses on the transformation of migrant-workers’ poetry,which mainly thinks that due to the change of poets’ status and the feedback of mainstream critical discourse,migrant-workers’ poetry has become more artistic and thoughtful in the later period.It has proved that some transformation possibilities have taken place in migrant-workers’ poetry.However,this kind of transformation is not universal at present.It also faces great difficulties and challenges at the same time,therefore still waiting for time to test.
