The Research Of Liang Shuming’s Life Philosophy

Liang shuming called himself “a problem man” and focused all his energies on the " life problem" and "China problem".Both of them are actually a problem about “life’.In Liang Shuming’s opinion,"life" is too rich to be narrowly defined as biological life in general.In fact,it is a systematic and comprehensive view of life,which is based on life Noumenon,main body life and promoted by the view of great life in cultural society.There are three parts of Liang Shuming’s life philosophy.Firstly,Liang took Bergson’s concept of "life",the vijbana-vada knowledge and the nature view of the Tai zhou school as the sources of his thought,and then he established the ontology of life.In his opinion,the life is the most fundamental existence,and it is the basis of the appearance and existence of the phenomenal world.The creation of all things in the universe,the completion of the process of human life and the formation and development of human society are all the results of the life’s movement.Human’s life and the universe’s life are the same body.It means that the human has realizes the absolute freedom and they can round foot the theory possibility.Secondly,as far as the individual is concerned,first of all,it is divided into the "body" life and the "mind" life,which are in a state of unity and opposition.And then,in the contrast between them,the mind is the fundamental reason why people are human.It can transcend the "right" of the material world and enter the "right-free" of the spiritual realm.But Liang Shuming’s understanding of the mind had a changing process,from the early dichotomy of instinct and intellect to the dichotomy of instinct,intellect and reason.It indicated that Liang’s thought realized the transformation from the natural humanism to the moral humanism,but fundamentally said that Liang’s mind of the human existence essence has not changed.Thirdly,in Liang Shuming’s view,people in Chinese,Western and Indian societies have their own unique attributes of life.Different cultures formed on the basis of human beings which have their own forms,and will gradually emerge in order to become the mainstream of world culture.Liang believes that,after experiencing Western culture which is rich in material and lacking spirit,and Chinese culture which values the inner perfection of life and neglects the external desire of material will be revived eventually.There is no denying that Liang Shuming’s life philosophy has a strong subjective color and a tendency of idealization.However,this theory makes a life-oriented discussion of Confucianism and shows ultimate concern for human beings in the confusion of the material world.It still has strong theoretical and practical significance.
