As one of the four basic skills in English learning,writing can not only measure the output quality of students' language,but also exercise their comprehensive ability of using language.In the actual teaching activities,there are many problems in the students' writing,such as illogical text,simple sentence structure,and scarce words.Because students are unable to obtain ideal scores in writing,they have a psychological obstacle for English writing.Therefore,it is an important task to improve junior high school students' English writing ability and help them build up self-confidence in English writing.Theory of Memetics regards the process of the language communication is the process of continuous transmission and duplication of language memes,including vocabulary,sentence structure and text.This research aims at the current situation of English writing for junior high school students,and explores junior high school English writing teaching from the perspective of memetics.The purpose of this action research is to answer the following three questions: 1)How to apply memetics to junior high school English writing teaching? 2)After action research,what are the changes of students' writing ability in terms of word use,sentence pattern,and passage structure? 3)How does English writing teaching based on memetics affect junior middle school students' English writing attitude?The research used questionnaires,interviews,tests,and text analysis to conduct a four-month action study on a class of a junior high school in Jiangsu Province.Through data collection and analysis,the research found: Combining memetics with English writing teaching can effectively help students master writing methods.What's more,students' writing ability has improved significantly in word use,sentence pattern,andpassage structure.In terms of word use,students can express their emotions with a variety of words,and pay more attention to the correctness of words and punctuation marks.In terms of sentence pattern,students' grammatical errors are gradually reduced,and sentence patterns are gradually increased.In terms of passage structure,the greatest progress for students is to overall grasp of the logical order of the text.In addition,students have improved their attitude and become more confident in their English writing.The action research has proved that memetic-based English writing teaching can improve students' writing ability and have a positive impact on students' writing attitude in junior high school.At the same time,the author hope that teachers can pay more attention to the choice of English writing paradigms and enrich writing teaching activities.
