Lustrationt The Impact Of College Students’ Personality Traits On Online Politic Participation

With the popularity of the Internet,network politic participation has become a hot topic in the field of political science.college student is one of the most active group in the use of the Internet,and their online politic participation has gained more and more attention.Scholars have conducted relevant research on college students’ online politic participation from the perspective of social factors.Personality trait is an important aspect that affects individual behavior.The author studies the online politic participation of college students from the personality traits through empirical investigation.On the basis of previous studies,this study determines the internal structure of college students’ online politic awareness and online politic behavior.The college students’ awareness of online politic participation is composed of participation attitude and participation motivation.The participation motivation is subdivided into emotional motivation and rational motivation.College students’ online politic participation behavior consists of onlooker,expression participation and action participation.Based on this,we adapted the questionnaire of college students’ politic awareness and politic behavior.Together with the Big Five personality questionnaire,we conducted a survey of 680 college students randomly selected from the university students in three key universities in Wuhan.Through SPSS statistical analysis,the personality traits and online politic participation of college students were investigated.The regression analysis was used to test the influence of college students’ personality traits on online politic participation.Meanwhile,the author further verified the mediating role of politic awareness between personality traits and online politic behavior.The study found that,generally,college students’ awareness of online politic participation is qualified,but it still needs to be improved.Online politic participation still incline to lower levels of participation such as browsing and forwarding.Through analysis of variance,it is found that college students’ awareness of online politic participation has significant differences in gender,political outlook and major.college students’ politic behavior show diffenences in terms of position holding,major,gender and political outlook,education level.The personality traits of college students have a significant impact on online politic participation.Specifically,Neuroticism influences the attitude and motivation of online politic participation,and tends to participate as onlooker.Extraversion influences participation attitude and motivation and tends to participate in expression and action.Openness does not tend to participate as onlooker.Agreeableness affects participation attitude and motivationbut participation behaviors are negative.Conscientiousness influences participation attitude and motivation and tends to be onlooker or participates in action.The awareness of online politic participation plays a mediating role in the personality traits affecting the politic participation.Specifically,participation attitude plays a full mediating role in the influence of Neuroticism on action participation,and plays a partial mediating role in the influence of Conscientiousness on expression participation.Emotional motivation plays a full mediating role in the influence of Neuroticism and Openness on expression participation and action participation and plays a partial mediating role in the influence of Agreeableness on expression participation and action participation.Rational motivation plays a full mediating role in the influence of Neuroticism on action participation and plays a full mediating role in the influence of Openness on expression participation and action participation.
