A Report On The E-C Translation Of In The Voice Of Others:Chinese Music Bureau Poetry(Chapter Two)

Poetry is a very important part of Chinese traditional culture.While yuefu poetry in the Han and Wei dynasties is not only one of the most brilliant poems in the history of Chinese poetry,but also the focus of many literary researchers.This translation practice report selects the second chapter of the Western Sinologist Joseph Allen's In the Voice of Others:Chinese Music Bureau Poetry as the translation object.The original text belongs to the informative text according to Reiss.The selected contents are mainly about intertextuality of yuefu poetry,as well as some research hypotheses.Therefore,in the process of translation,it is guided by the communicative translation theory of Newmark's text type theory.In addition,the translator makes a fully consideration of the great differences in thinking habits and expressions between Chinese and English.The problems encountered in this translation mainly include the translation of academic terms,loose structures in long complex sentences and independent components in sentences.According to the above problems,the translator adopts the strategies of literal translation,conversion,sequence,preposing,division,amplification and restructuring.The report is divided into four parts.The first part is the task description,including the background of the source text and the significance of this practice.The second part is the description of translation process,including preparation before translation,translation practice process and proofreading after translation.The third part expounds the types of problems in translation practice,the theoretical thinking of problems and the solutions.The fourth part is the summary of this translation practice,including the unsolved problems and related thinking,and the referential value of this practice for the future translation.
