Comparative Study Of MMPI Test Results Between The Ethnic Uygur And Han In The Northern And Southern Xinjiang Regions

Objective: To explore the general situation and differences of the personality characteristics of Uygur and Han in the southern and northern Xinjiang.Methods: In this study,Xinjiang is divided into southern xinjiang(represented by city Kashgar)and northern xinjiang(represented by Urumqi)to sampling,the Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory were used to measure and sampling the general population of Uygur and Han.A total of 585 valid questionnaires were obtained,among which 295 people [160 Uygur and 135 Han;male 141,female 154,average age(38 ±10)] live in Urumqi.290 people [165 Uygur and125 Han;male 84,female 206,average age(35±9)]live in Kashgar.Results:(1)There were statistically significant differences in factor scores of [F,Hs,Hy,Pd,Pt,Sc,Ma(P < 0.001);L,D,Pa(P < 0.05)] between different regions of Uygur.Except for L,the scores of Urumqi were higher than those in Kashgar.There were statistically significant differences in factor scores of [F(P < 0.001);Pd,Mf,Sc(P < 0.01);Pa,Ma(P < 0.05)] between different regions of Han.Except for Mf,the scores of Urumqi were higher than those in Kashgar.(2)There were statistically significant differences in the factor scores of [F,Pd(P < 0.05),Hs,Hy,Mf(P < 0.01),and D(P < 0.001)] between different ethnic groups in Urumqi,among which Hs,D,Hy,and Mf were significantly higher in Uygur than in Han,and F,Pd were significantly higher in Han than in Uygur.There were statistically significant differences in the factor scores of [D(P < 0.001),L(P < 0.01),Pd(P < 0.05)] between different ethnic groups in Kashgar,among which L、D were significantly higher in Uygur than in Han,and Pd were significantly higher in Han.(3)There were statistically significant differences in factor scores of F,Ma(P < 0.05),Si(P < 0.01),Pd(P < 0.001)] between Uygur men and Uygur women,among which F,Ma and Pd were significantly higher in Uygur men than Uygur women and Si was significantly higher in Uygur women.There were statistically significant differences in the factor scores of [F,Sc(P < 0.01),Pd,Ma(P < 0.05)] between the Han men and Han women,among which the factor scores of F,Pd,Sc and Ma were significantly higher in Han man.Conclusion:(1)The personality characteristics of Uygur and Han populations are different in southern and northern Xinjiang.The MMPI scores of Uygur and Han people in Urumqi is significantly higher than that of Uygur and Han people in Kashgar.The personality characteristics differences between Urumqi and Kashgar in Uygur are greater than those in Han.(2)There are differences in personality characteristics between Uygur population and Han population.Uygur people have more anxiety,tension,nervousness,emotional instability and somatization symptoms,especially a higher level of depression,but the results need to be confirmed by other external indicators.(3)According to the personality characteristics measured by MMPI,regional differences between southern Xinjiang and northern Xinjiang in personality traits are greater than ethnical differences between Uygur and Han.
