On Geling Yan's Traumatic Memory And Novel Creation

Geling Yan is a prominent contemporary Chinese American writer.Most of her novels are tragedies,which is closely related to her bumpy life experience.She once said,“Novels originate from my traumatic memory.” Nightmare childhood,depressed youth and the suffering from the misery of studying abroad career made her deeply understand the pain of life.She penetrate the literary brushwork into her heart from her personal life experience and present the despair and struggle of family,love and human nature in different situations to us With vivid and exquisite language.However,Geling Yan's excavation of traumatic memory is not just about to giving vent to her inner pain and suffering,the fundamental of her creation also comes from her re-understanding of individual values and her desire for internal redemption.The thesis includes three chapters: introduction,text and conclusion:In the first chapter,the causes of Geling Yan's traumatic memory are analyzed.There are three sections in this chapter,which mainly combines trauma theory and Geling Yan's related works.The formation and development of traumatic memory are analyzed and discussed from three aspects: nightmare childhood memory,cruel youth injury and difficult foreign survival.The second chapter aims to explore the literary representation of Geling Yan's traumatic memory.Through careful analysis of Geling Yan's works,it is found that Geling Yan's traumatic memory is closely related to her text creation.This chapter explores the potential factors of Geling Yan's problems and their derivative functions of ideological significance from the four major issues concerning family,love,marginal situation and human nature in her works,so as to reflect on the scars of Geling Yan's inner world.The third chapter focuses on Geling Yan's reflection and redemption of trauma.This chapter is divided into three sections.The first section explores the extraordinary experience of ordinary characters from the trauma to reflect on the history of the times.The second section explores the value and significance of individual life by analyzing the joys and sorrows of the small characters in Geling Yan's works.The third section is to excavate the maternal power in the feminine characteristics to obtain spiritualsalvation.The conclusion part is a summary of the whole paper.This part mainly reorganizes and summarizes the relationship between Geling Yan's traumatic memory and novel creation.It is an important way to enter Geling Yan's novel from the perspective of trauma,because only by grasping a writer's life course can we have a more comprehensive and objective understanding of his works,so as to inject new vitality into later research and expand it in depth.
