The Study On English Preposition Translation In The Energy Reports From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation

It was in December 2016 that the Royal Dutch Shell Group released Shell Annual Report 2016 which summarized its achievements in various fields in 2016,aiming to promote good corporate brand image,make readers such as employees,consumers,industry peers and partners have a full picture of Shell,and expand overseas markets.This research focuses on the second part of Shell Energy Report 2016,which introduces Shell's information in various areas such as risk control,investment and capital flow.The Shell Annual Report 2016 is featured with high frequency of various English prepositions with strong collocation ability,flexible usage and changing meanings,which will affect how target readers understand Shell and whether good corporate image can be shaped.However,there are differences as to the usage of prepositions in English and Chinese,so it is of certain significance to study the Chinese translation of English prepositions.Communicative Translation theory emphasizes that the translation needs to break through the original language structure with center on the target language readers and the communicative effect of the original text so that target readers can think,feel and act.Hence,Communicative Translation theory can effectively guide this translation practice.Therefore,taking various English prepositions and prepositional phrases in the Shell Annual Report 2016 as the analysis objects,and Communicative Translation as the theoretical guidance,this research aims to analyze how English prepositions and prepositional phases can be translated properly with basis on the differences between English and Chinese prepositions,so that information can be accurately conveyed and good corporate image can be shaped.Lastly,this report has concluded seven methods for English prepositions translation,which are reversed translation,dynamic translation,omission translation,prepositions to attributives translation,prepositions to conjunctions translation,prepositions to subjects translationand prepositions to sentences translation respectively.
