As one of the features of Chinese traditional culture and the essence of Chinese language, idioms are brief in structure and rich in connotation with extraordinary expression effect.Idioms are very often used by Chinese people in both written and oral languages.Studies on idioms are numerous but mostly focus on the idioms as they are or on the translation methods of idioms. However, studies on idioms with regard to the application of idioms as a particular translation method are quite few.The report focuses on the English-Chinese translation of the historical text of History of Serbia.According to the features and functions of the text, idioms are applied in the translation under the guidance of the domestication strategy.Comparisons with translation using ordinary Chinese words are made to present the translation effects that can be achieved by applying idioms under the guidance of domestication strategy, offering references for the translation of texts of the same or similar types. The application of idioms in translation includes two main types, namely individual English words being translated into idioms, and phrases being translated into idioms. The latter is divided into two types according to whether the idioms adopted in the translation are structurally or semantically similar or identical with the corresponding parts in the original text.Due to the content of the selected text, few sentences can be wholly translated into an individual idiom.Cases of misapplication of idioms in translation including the reasons and solutions are also discussed for better translation effects. The report concludes that proper application of Chinese idioms in English-Chinese translation of historical text under the guidance of domestication strategy can reproduce the historical style and better express the idea of the original work, and make the translation comply with Chinese language habits and rules. Therefore, the translation of History of Serbia can be better accepted by Chinese readers, fully delivering the historical information of the work.
