Hans Christian Anderson is written in the form of biography. As the biography is characterized by descriptive languages, adverbs are frequently seen in the languages. Moreover, the statistics of-ly adverbs indicates that-ly adverbs have a high occurrence rate in the context too.Proper translation of 僕y adverbs needs accurately conveying their meanings as well as translating them in accordance with habits of Chinese expressions. However, little attention has been paid to the translation of the僕y adverbs.Against this backdrop, this study is of high significance. The report firstly introduces the translation program and analyzes translation context. Then it reviews the studies related to 僕y adverbs and sums up translation difficult points of 僕y adverbs from three aspects.Translation difficulties involve with the flexible positions in sentences of 僕y adverbs and their complicated semantic functions as well as their denotation and connotation. At last,on a basis of analysis before, six translation techniques are proposed. The report based on the analysis of 僕y adverbs puts forward six translation techniques including inversion, conversion, division, semantic extension, omission and combination.Inversion is used to change the positions of 僕y adverbs in translation to meet the requirements of Chinese;conversion refers to transforming the word class of-ly adverbs which can not be translated into Chinese adverbs directly and appropriately;division is employed to translate the 僕y adverbs modifying the whole sentence and representing facts or the attitudes of author into clauses;semantic extension is adopted to extend the meaning of 僕y adverbs;omission is applied to omit some-ly adverbs to secure the conciseness of translation;combination means translating-ly adverbs and the parts of sentence modified by the adverbs together into fixed Chinese forms. The report concludes six translation techniques of-ly adverbs, but whichever translation technique translators select, they should translate 僕y adverbs based on the context and comprehensive analysis of-ly adverbs.
