As a rising star in the new immigrant literary world in North America,Chen He kept writing after returning,and won many awards at home and abroad.The experience of moving abroad and repeatedly separating from his family not only nourished him with foreign culture,helped him form an open and diversified horizon,but also gave him a clearer cognition of himself.In his creation,no matter the choice of subjects or the expression of thoughts and emotions,he got rid of wandering between two cultures but gained a firm stance which rooted in the Chinese nation.He spared no effort to show Chinese civilization and the spirit of ethnic Chinese.Especially in the multi-ethnic narrative,he didn’t mention the actions of each ethnic group in all aspects,but highlighted the status and role of ethnic Chinese.Based on this,the author took " Chinese Ethnic Identity " as the entry point,probed into Chen He’s cultural identity by studying the written content,spiritual connotation and narrative techniques of his novels.Basing on the systematic analysis of Chen He’s novels,this paper applied the theoretical methods of post-colonialism and narratology to explore the strong Chinese cultural characteristics and Chinese identity in his works,so as to provide some supplement to the study of Chen He’s novels.The main body of the paper was divided into three chapters.The first chapter,starting from the subject content,expounded Chen He’s multi-dimensional presentation and specific expression of " Chinese Ethnic Identity " in his novels about archaeology,war,Cultural Revolution and reality subject.The second chapter focus on the history and reality,mainly from three aspects of the dilemma of "the other",the cultural manifestation and the modern thinking of the Chinese ethnic group culture,to explore the spiritual connotation behind Chen He’s identification with the Chinese ethnic group.The third chapter mainly analyzes the narrative technique of Chen He’s novels,starting from the three aspects of narrative person,inner narration and narrative image,together combining the former two chapters to discuss how does narrative technique of Chen He’s novels served the expression of idea and achieve a perfect combination of form and content.In addition,the author would also put Chen He’s novels into a certain axis,through the comparison of domestic writers and other immigrant writers to discuss the unique value and significance of Chen He’s novels.
