Extended curriculum follows the laws of education,aiming to protect and cultivate the learning interest of each student and motivate the learning enthusiasm of each student.The development and implementation of various extended courses can better help students achieve comprehensive and individual development.Experiential teaching,which focuses on learning individual and advocates students' practice,is widely adopted to the teaching of English extended curriculum.However,how to better integrate experiential teaching into English extended curriculum to facilitate curriculum improvement and teaching activities is still the focus of researchers and teachers.This study aims to explore the application of experiential teaching to English extended curriculum in junior high school based on Dewey's Philosophy of Education and Experience,Constructivism Theory and Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory.The specific research questions are as follows:(1)How do teachers understand experiential teaching?(2)What is the current situation of experiential teaching in English extended curriculum in junior high school?(3)What is the effect of experiential teaching on students' learning of English extended curriculum in junior high school ?To answer the above research questions,the author first analyzes the teachers' understanding of experiential teaching through a questionnaire.Subsequently,the author analyzes the current situation of the application of experiential teaching to English extended curriculum in one junior high school in Hangzhou with the help of classroom observation.Finally,through questionnaires and interviews with thestudents,the author summarizes the effect of experiential teaching on students' learning of English extended curriculum.The major findings are listed as follows: 1)Teachers have a relatively superficial understanding of experiential teaching on its connotation or its implementation in English extended curriculum.2)Experiential teaching model is widely used in English extended curriculum,but there are still many problems in the application.3)Students' learning of English extended curriculum can be significantly improved with the implementation of experiential teaching after teachers have had a better and deeper understanding.The implications of the study are that: 1)Teachers should strengthen theoretical learning of experiential teaching by reading relevant books and participating in teaching and research activities.And they have to continuously reflect to innovate experiential teaching model to adapt to students' English level.2)Teachers should learn to be an expert in classroom management,which contributes directly to the efficiency of students' cooperative learning.3)Students should respond cooperatively to teachers' instructions and actively participate in classroom activities so as to realize the accumulation and transformation of their own experience.4)Schools should ensure the continuity and the effectiveness of students' experiential learning of English extended course from the aspect of managerial system.Also,schools should continuous to improve hardware facilities and supporting software for the smooth implementation of experiential teaching in English extended curriculum.
