A Critical Discourse Analysis Of Public Opinions On Development Of Caofeidian

Under the background of establishment of Xiongan New Area,public opinions on Caofeidian’s development are taken as the research subject;news headlines about the research subject released by national and Hebei Provincial mainstream official media one year before and after the date of establishment of Xiongan New Area are regarded as the research carrier(corresponding Corpora A and B are constructed);Fairclough’s Three-Dimensional Model is used as the theoretical framework;Halliday’s Systemic-Functional Grammar and intertextuality theories are applied as the analytical tools.Quantitative and qualitative Critical Discourse Analyses of the news headlines in corpora are conducted;the differences in linguistic features of the news headlines released before and after the time point are explored;and the implied ideologies and driving sociocultural factors are revealed to give feedback to the study of public opinions on Caofeidian’s development.According to the results,the following conclusions are drawn: First,there is no significant difference in the selecting proportion of transitivity process types and mood types between the news headlines from the corpora.The higher proportions of Action Process and Indicative Mood explain that the relevant media are committed to truly reporting the matters on Caofeidian’s development.Second,the research on the frequently used nouns and adjectives in the classification system discovers that the state and Hebei Province’s focus on Caofeidian’s development is inclined to the micro level.Third,the intertextuality,both inside and outside news headlines,is more frequently used before the time point,but the frequencies of using intertextuality outside news headlines before and after the time point tend toward similarity,which indicates that the enterprises or individuals shall enhance ability of interpreting the orientation of public opinions and create conditions for self-development.Fourth,sociocultural factors like the preferential policies and economic supports from the state and Hebei Province as well as Caofeidian’s own advantages provide factual bases for the smooth progress of the research.Figure 5;Table 16;Reference 105.
