The original text of this translation report is the first chapter of the book My Absolute Darling written by Gabriel Tallent who is a very young novelist in America. It is a typical realistic novel with simple language and full of colloquial words. In the process of translation, the translator chose the Functional Equivalence Theory to guide the translation and reproduced the style of the original text.Based on the Functional Equivalence Theory of Eugene Nida, the translator summarized some typical cases and analyzed them under the guidance of the theory.Case analysis is divided into four parts: lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence. In case analysis, the translator cared more about the comparison between the original text and the translated text, paying more attention to the acceptability of target readers. At the lexical level, the translator considered that the emotions of the characters in the original text should be taken into account during the translating progress to ensure the target readers have the same reaction as the original readers. At the syntactic level, the translator adjusted the word orders in the translation text, and added or subtracted cohesive words when necessary. At the textual level, the translator grasped the main idea of the original text to increase the logicality of the translation and ensure the coherence and smoothness of the tra nslation. At the stylistic level, the translator paid more attention to the style of the original text and tried to convey the style of the original text to readers by using words and structures that can reproduce the style of the original text. The translator tried to find the closest and most natural equivalent in the translation to improve the acceptability of target readers. And through the analysis of the translation process,it provides certain reference value for the future translation of realistic novels.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 33...
