Since the 1990 s,under the influence of market economy,social transformation,value diversification,and university reforms,college novel writing has entered a golden period.The prosperity of college novel creation has aroused the attention of the academic circles.Reviewing the existed research results,the academic circles have made great efforts in the study of college novels,especially in the theme of college novel and the image of intellectuals.However,the existed achievements often enter into the interpretation of the novel text without starting from the current historical context,which may lead to insufficient analysis of the text.At the same time,the existed research is not comprehensive enough on the aesthetic turning and value evaluation of college novel.In addition,the university "symptoms" described in college novels do exist objectively in real universities.That is why,studying college fictions can enable society to keep a sober understanding of the problems that exist in universities and then find a scientific method to save universities and university intellectuals,which is indispensable to the reconstruction of university spirit.The facts show that there is a large research space for college novels,and it is also necessary to study college novels.Therefore,it is a very meaningful work to engage in college novel research.In addition to the introduction and conclusion of Chapter 1,the main body of the thesis is Chapter 2 to Chapter 5.Chapter 1 Introduction introduces the reasons for selecting the topic,the significance of the topic and the research review.Chapter 2 introduces in detail the historical context of college novel creation since the 1990 s.This part expounds the transformation of college fiction under the influence of market economy,technological revolution and value diversification.Chapter 3 takes a close reading of the text and analyzes the image of "university characters" in college novels since the 1990 s.The "character image" in college novels of this period can be roughly divided into three types: "sinker","rescuer" and "the escaped".Sunken university professors have the most miserable fate,and their endings are roughly in the three categories of "death","crazy" and "running away".For sinking students,writers are relatively tolerant."Savior" type of image have ideals,goals,fear of hardships and want to do a great job.However,because of the influence of many factors,their "rescue" effect may not be all satisfactory.Some people face failure and continue to stick to their original intentions.Some people aredefeated by reality and forced to give up themselves in the world.The "escaped" as their great aspirations are difficult to fulfill in colleges and universities,they went to other countries with utopia illusions.Of course,most of the "escaped" are university professors,and college students are more likely to escape from university by means of "self-exile" because of their own weakness and compromise.Chapter 4 discusses the aesthetic turn and artistic strategy of college novels.Combining the background of the times and the writer's own factors,this paper discusses how university novels have changed from "poetic" to "secular" since the 1990 s and analyzes the irony and exaggeration writing methods commonly used in university novels.Chapter 5 college fictions since the 1990 s have been evaluated for value.College novel has a certain social value and is a window for the public to understand universities and university intellectuals.They also play a reference role in the spiritual construction of future universities and university intellectuals.Without doubt,there are also obvious shortcomings in the college novels,namely,the assimilation of creation,the flattening of character creation and the popularization and kitschization of creation.The conclusion contemplates the possibility of future college novel creation.
