A Report On The Translation Of Mashan County Profile From The Perspective Of Eco-Translatology

The translation of city profiles is one of the initial ways to promote the publicity of Chinese cities.It will help foreigners know Chinese cities quickly and thus promote the development of tourism,which will eventually result in the spread of Chinese culture.However,translation studies on city profiles are fewer than those on news,scenic spots,public signs,and so on.On the basis of translation studies on international publicity texts,this report is a translation research of the Mashan County profile,a kind of international publicity text,from the perspective of Hu Gengshen's eco-translatology.The main goal of this study is to find out whether the eco-translatology is suitable to guide the translation of city profiles or not.In addition,some specific translation skills will be summarized for futher reference.According to this theory,the translation process is an activity of selection after the translator have adapted to the translational eco-environment.The best translation is the one that has the highest degree of multidimensional transformation.Under the guidance of this theory,the translator finished the Chinese-English translation of the Mashan County profile and discussed the translation process,translator's adaption and selection in this research report.The research objects of this report include the translational eco-environment of the Mashan County profile,the source text,the target text,and the quality of the translation.By comparing the translated text before and after the adaptation to the translational ecoenvironment,it was found that the eco-translatology is suitable for the translation of such type of text as city profiles.The translated text was discussed from lexical,syntactic and stylistic levels.Certain examples of translation were selected to demonstrate the application of eco-translatology.Furthermore,according to the questionnaire that issued for evaluating the quality of the translated text,the Mashan County profile translation meets the requirements in linguistical,communicative and cultural dimensions.In conclusion,the eco-translatology is a proper translation theory to guide translation activities.With this theoretical guidance,translators could,with the awareness of translational eco-environment,make a better adaptation and selection and produce the best adapted translation.This translation practice and research of ecotranslatology was expected to provide certain experience for future application and development of eco-translatology.
