The Translation Practice Report is both the description and conclusion of the complete translating process, translation theory, translation strategy, and translation methods and techniques, and it is also the upgrade of the translation practice, based on the completion of the translation project of the Chinese-English Translation of Engine Electronic Control in Training Textbook of X Brand Moving Vehicle. It includes five sections, respectively introduction, translation process, theoretical basis, case study under functional equivalence and conclusion. The introduction focuses on the background information of the translation task, which is under the Going-Out Strategy in China. It also introduces the origin, structure and characteristics of the source text, and indicates the challenges of this translation project face because of the different language features between Chinese and English. In the goals and significance part,it shows the theoretical and practical significance of this translation project. It is the examination and promotion of the functional equivalence theory to guide the translation of scientific and technological text, and could provide the closest after-sales translation text for the domestic auto makers to use in international marketing. In the section of translation theory,Eugene Nida's functional equivalence translation theory is used as guidance. The target language readers are taken as the basis in this translation and the “closest natural” equivalence is sought to be achieved. The translation strategy, methods and techniques used are introduced in detail. The translation process includes three phases: before translation, during translation and after translation. Before translation includes: reading over the entire document, obtaining background information and comparing existing translations of the text.During translation includes: making a first draft of sufficiently comprehensive units, revising the first draft after a short lapse of time, and reading aloud for style and rhythm. After translation includes: studying the reactions of receptors by the reading of the text, submitting a translation to the scrutiny of other competent translators, and revising the text for publication. The case study section is the key part of the report.Under the guidance of functional equivalence,it describes the ways to solve the actual problems in translation by applying domestication translation strategy.Liberal translation method is mainly used here. The specific translation techniques, such as,amplification, omission, zero translation, split, combination and conversion, are adopted here. The conclusion section consists of two parts, perceptions from the translation practice and implications for the scientific and technological translation work in the future. The result and conclusion are as followed. The translation has been adopted by the company and printed as internal materials only.Firstly,it is used as the text material for interpretation practice.Secondly,it is provided to the overseas after-sales technicians as textbook.Because the translation realizes the faithful reappearance of the original information and the language form is more suitable for the receptors' language habit,it is more easily understood and accepted,so that the translation project is completed well.Meanwhile, the translation practice is also the practical use of Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory in guiding the specific translation practice. It further indicates the value and significance of the theory in guiding translation of scientific and technological text.
