Peter Doig is one of the contemporary artists with important influence in Britain.He is an artist who,after Lucian Freud,David Hockney and others,has renewed his unique vitality in the field of "painting on shelves ",and his paintings have made remarkable achievements in the international stage and the art market.It began to become familiar after being nominated for the Turner Prize in 1994.In 2007 peter doig's "white canoe ",which cost $11.3 million to sotheby's,broke the european auction record for living artists and became the focus of discussion.Now he has become a painter alongside contemporary artists such as Luc Tuijmans and Neo Laoh.Peter Doig's artistic life is full of "drift ",and the experience of continuous migration forms his unique painting characteristics.He grew up in Scotland,Trinidad,Quebec and Ontario,and then began his artistic career in London.He then moved to Montreal,where he lived and built a studio in the Spanish port of Trinidad.These "wandering" experiences have also become the material for his later painting creation,and the different experiences and memories caused by different regional cultures and regional environments are all indispensable factors in his painting.In his paintings we can see his memories of past life scenes and the use of photographs,newspapers,magazines,postcards and film images that were discovered by chance in urban life,as well as the misappropriation of classical painting images and collage of images.The scenery he depicts is the image between memory and imagination,and the subjective scenery.His works transcend the time and space of reality with nostalgia for the past.In his painting we can see the obvious "regional" characteristics,it is his experience of real life,thus forming his own painting form.In this paper,Peter Doig's paintings will be explored in depth to clarify the ideas of artistic creation and the reasons for the formation of artistic sub-style,and to restore his painting appearance and its painting language characteristics.This paper discussesfrom four chapters.The first chapter is to explain the influence factors of Peter Doig's painting brief,artistic environment and artistic mechanism,and analyze the influence of external factors on his painting,as the background introduction of the article.The second chapter mainly discusses the reproduction of Peter Doig's visual images,from the images in "memory ",misappropriated and collaged images,to discuss the theme of Peter Doig's painting and the source of visual images and the reference and borrowing of their images.The third chapter mainly discusses Peter Doyger's unique painting language from modeling language,plane spatial processing,abstract brushstroke application.The fourth chapter discusses the "metaphorical" and contemporary value in Peter Doig's painting art,from the experience of mystery,the expression of autobiographical memory,and the influence on the creation of Chinese current landscape painting.
