This thesis is a report of the Chinese translation of an excerpt from Richard T.Castallo's Dealing with Dysfunction: A Book for University Leaders published in 2017.The book provides a real-life view of a college department gone awry.A complete lack of trust exists between faculty, name calling, sabotage.A long-term professor who is approached by his colleagues and the dean to see if he would help the department get back to the point where members can work together smoothly to provide quality education to its students, turning departmental dysfunction into collective productivity. In the process of translation, the author mainly took interpretive theory as the theoretical guidance founded by Danica Seleskovitch and her student Marianne Lederer.Firstly, the author made full use of her professional knowledge to understand the original text, clarify the sentence structure, meaning and emotion of the original text,so as to realize the “comprehension”.Secondly, drawing on interpretive theory, the author analyzed translation of clauses and compound sentences, including noun clauses, adverbial clauses, attributive clauses, comparative sentences, and applied various translation strategies to realize “deverbalization”.Finally, the author represented the knowledge, contents, structures and emotions of the original text into the source language and the translation can be accepted and understood well.By completing the translation and writing this report, the author has a deeper understanding of the translation of university management texts and the application of the theory of interpretation in the field of translation. It is hoped that the experience gained from this practice can provide guidance and reference for her future work in this field.
