This report is on the Chinese translation of We Ourselves,a movie script consisting of seven monologues by Irish people. The script is about their working life in Germany, the love triangles among them, and their national consciousness.Firstly, the report introduces the script and analyzes its language features. It also details the process, including pre-translation preparation, schedule and quality control procedures. The translator set three objectives for the translation of We Ourselves. The first objective is accuracy. The primary objective of translating the script is to have every word, phrase and sentence accurately translated. The second objective is fluency. The translator aims to make every sentence fluent and natural in Chinese. The third objective is cohesion, that is,producing a unified whole in the target text.During the translation process, the author of this report is mainly faced with the following four difficulties:(1)How to decode special words in the source text?(2)How to analyze the structures of incomplete sentences?(3)How to exactly reflect the personality and image of each character?(4)How to reproduce the culture-loaded words to help the target language reader feel the same as the source language reader does?In order to translate the script appropriately, the author analyses the text from three views, namely, linguistic context, situational context and cultural context. This report discusses how the translator handled these problems and achieved her objectives. In case analyses, the translator finds that context plays an important role in translation. It is of great help in determining the meaning of words, clarifying sentence structures, reproducing the tones of characters, and accurately conveying culture-loaded words.
