When people having a conversation,verbal communication will first come to our mind.but language is not the only way for us to communicate with each other.People express their feelings,ideas and other information through many other methods,these are called non-verbal communication.Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language is an activity which regard Chinese as a foreign language,also it's an activity that cross language and culture.During teaching activity,due to the language barrier,communication between teachers and students requires not only target language and intermediate language but also non-verbal communication to compensate verbal communication.Non-verbal communication is a very important factor in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.It's an important teaching method that should be mastered by teachers.It can effectively improve teaching quality.There are four parts in this essay.The first part is the introduction which includes the background and the purpose of this research,also the methods that being used in this essay and summarized relevant research about this study.The second part is to explain relevant theories about non-verbal communication which includes the definition,category,features and functions of non-verbal communication.This essay divided nonverbal communication into four aspects: Kinesics,Paralanguage,Object language,Environmental language.The third part is the specific research about the application of non-verbal communication in primary Chinese teaching class.There are three methods being used in this research: survey,class observation and interview.The fourth part is the discussion about the problems in the application of non-verbal communication in primary Chinese teaching.At the end of this essay the author put forward some suggestions on these matters.
