With the rapid development of information technology,China's exchanges with other countries in the world are increasing.Learning and using English can enhance mutual understanding between China and the world.Setting up an English course at the compulsory education stage can lay the foundation for cultivating talents with intercultural communication skills,and good cultural awareness helps students understand English correctly and use English properly for cross-cultural communication,so developing cultural awareness is a requirement of the development of the times.In our country,the 2011 education Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard explicitly indicates that cultural awareness is one of five major curriculum objectives of the English subject.And junior high school English teaching materials are the main basis for teachers to teach and the main tool for students to learn.Therefore,the author will adopt the requirements of the five-level cultural awareness objectives in the 2011 education Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard as the standard,will use the text analysis method to conduct internal analysis about the cultural factors in the latest edition English teaching materials Go for it for junior high school published by People's Education Press,and use questionnaire method and interview method to conduct external analysis about the cultural factors in the Go for it of some students and teachers in the fourth grade of a junior high school in Harbin who have just completed use the whole set of English teaching materials.The purpose of this study is to examine the following three questions: 1.Does the cultural factors in the English teaching materials Go for it conform to the five-level cultural awareness objectives in the 2011 education Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard ?2.Does the cultural factors in the English teaching materials Go for it meet the students' learning needs? 3.Does the cultural factors in the English teaching materials Go for it meet the teachers' teaching needs?The main innovation of this study is that: In the internal analysis,the author only analyzed the cultural factors in the English teaching materials Go for it for Junior high school based on the five-level cultural awareness objectives in the 2011 educationCompulsory Education English Curriculum Standard.In addition,the author analyzed the cultural factors in the Go for it volume by volume,and then integrated the analysis of the cultural factors of each teaching material to analyze and discuss the cultural factors in the whole set of teaching materials,which makes the analysis more detailed and comprehensive to a certain extent.Through the research,the author finds that the cultural factors in the English teaching materials Go for it for junior high school basically meet the five-level cultural awareness objectives in the 2011 education Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard and largely meet the learning needs of students and the teaching needs of teachers.The major advantages of this set of teaching materials are as follows: First,the cultural factors in this set of teaching materials are extremely rich,and the cultural factors in the five volumes of teaching materials are increased one by one,which accord with students' cognitive ability,which can expand students' horizons and improve students' cultural awareness.Secondly,this set of teaching materials takes students' language level into consideration,combines the content of language knowledge with the content of cultural factors scientifically.Thirdly,this set of teaching materials value Chinese excellent traditional culture,which can deepen students' understanding of the culture of the motherland.Finally,the cultural factors in this set of textbooks generally promote students' foreign language learning and teachers' foreign language teaching.However,the author also found that there are some minor deficiencies in the cultural factors in this set of teaching materials.This set of teaching materials does not cover the geographical location of English-speaking countries,which will hinder students' understanding of the content when listening to or reading content related topics;the cultural factors in this set of teaching materials are not effectively integrated with learning strategies and methods;the supplementary materials about cultural factors of this set of teaching materials are inadequate.At the same time,in the survey,the author found that there are still a small number of students and teachers who are less motivated to learn and teach cultural factors.This phenomenon is not conducive to the cultivation of students' cultural awareness and English learning.
