The translation object of this report is selected from Chapter One and Chapter Two of A Book of Secrets: Illegitimate Daughters,Absent Fathers,which was written by British writer Michael Holroyd and in which the author introduced a group of unknown women to the world.This book clearly reflects fragile human connections and objectively describes the women who are related to the Villa Cimbrone,with simple language,rigorous facts and smooth writing.Biography is both authentic and literary,which decides the translator should focus on both sides in the translation process.Therefore,Peter Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation theory is adopted to guide the entire translation process.The difference between semantic translation and communicative translation is that the former emphasizes faithfulness to the original text,while the latter pays more attention to the target readers' response.The analysis is mainly from the vocabulary,sentence and discourse level.At the lexical level,literal translation and conversion,as well as amplification and omission are adopted.The Linear translation,division translation,tense transformation and negation and affirmation are mainly used at the level of sentence.At the discourse level,the stylistic characteristics of the original text are presented to the target readers as much as possible on the basis of faithful transmission of the cultural in the original text,and the process of quotations,rhetoric and pronoun.The report consists of five parts: an introduction to the translation task,an introduction to the translation process,theoretical methods,translation case analysis,and a summary of translation practice.The translation case analysis presented in this report is a record of the translator's thinking and processing methods in the translation process,hoping to provide a case for the translation of biography.
