Chinese tea boasts a time-honored history.Chinese tea culture,as a representative of traditional Chinese culture,enjoys important cultural values and communication values.To tell the story of Chinese tea culture and promote Chinese tea culture abroad are of great significance to further enhancing the soft power and international influence of Chinese culture.All About Chinese Tea is a book written by Zheng Guojian,the director of China National Center of Quality Supervision and Inspection of Tea,and it covers almost all aspects of Chinese tea,such as the characteristics of famous teas,tea craftsmanship and production areas,the history of tea,the selection and use of tea sets,etc.This report,selecting main chapters in Part One and Part Three to translate,tries to explore the application and guidance of seven elements in the communication studies for translating tea culture materials,in a bid to summarize the translation strategies and translation methods of tea culture materials,and improve communication effects of tea culture translation.First,based on the literature review,this report gives an explanation of the analogy between translation and communication,deduces the seven-element model in tea culture translation on the basis of the 7-W model in the communication studies,so as to improve the translation quality of tea culture texts and achieve better communication effects.Then,through text analysis,it analyzes the stylistic features of the original text,and conducts the preparations before translation such as the preparations of parallel texts,terminologies,translation tools and plans.Next,following the seven-element model in tea culture translation,the author completes the first draft translation practice and revises the version in consideration of the effect of information communication.Meanwhile,case studies are carried out from aspects of the processing of tea culture information of tea terms and the highlighting of communication effect in restructuring some sentences,and some translation methods and techniques of tea culture texts are summarized.Lastly,through case studies,findings and limitations of the practice are summed up,and some suggestions for future study are also put forward.This research report draws the following conclusions:(1)Translation can be regarded as a special kind of communication.Based on the perspective of seven elements in the communication studies,the application of seven elements in tea culture materials translation is conducive to comprehensively and dynamically viewing the translation process of tea culture and better spreading Chinese tea culture;(2)In the seven-element model of tea culture translation,the translator is in the central position mediating the other elements in translation process,and translation purpose and translation effect are viewed as the core elements in this report;(3)In dealing with tea culture information,the cultural connotation shall be reproduced as much as possible and the cultural characteristics can be preserved by taking foreignization as primary translation strategy and domestication as the supplementary one;(4)In order to achieve the translation purpose and highlight the translation effect,the translatormay consider the seven elements as a whole and choose appropriate translation techniques to enhance the readability of the rendition;(5)In the process of translating tea culture,the terms and expressions of foreign tea culture texts can be used for reference to ensure the quality of translation.Through this translation practice,it's believed that it's necessary and feasible to apply the seven elements of communication science into the translation of tea culture materials,which has made translation become a comprehensive and dynamic activity,instead of the static exchanges between two languages.And the seven elements in the translation process work together and affect each other.Translators may consider them as a whole and choose appropriate translation strategies and methods to better promote the spread of Chinese culture abroad,so that foreign readers can fully understand Chinese tea culture and improve China's cultural soft power.
