This report is based on an English-Chinese translation. The source text is selected from the book The New Cambridge History of the Bible, which is co-authored by many foreign scholars. This report is written based on the translation of The Bible and Literature in the European Renaissance(Chapter 30,Volume 3)written by Brian Cummings of York University, which discusses the translation strategies and skills and work that have been used in the process of translation, especially from the perspectives of cultural background, religious background and the differences in Chinese and English languages. As the text of the project involves knowledge and backgrounds in Western culture, religion, theology, history, literature, philosophy and other fields, the translator encountered many difficulties in the process of understanding and translation. On the basis of consulting a large number of materials, reading a large number of documents and consulting the opinions of supervisor, the translator repeatedly revised the translation to try to accurately transmit the original information. In this report, the translator focuses on and introduces in detail the typical translation cases in this project. In view of the translation involved under the relevant cultural and literary background, religious knowledge background and language differences, such as translation of name,title,non-English vocabulary, quotation, and relevant religious background, the translator details the complicated work done in this process as well as the translation strategies and methods adopted. The study of the project text enables the translator to have a more comprehensive understanding of biblical literature and religious knowledge, improves cultural literacy and translation level, and also enables Chinese readers to have a deeper understanding of western biblical culture, and provides reference for later translation of similar texts.
