The current research was carried to study the effect of facial attractiveness on correlated altruistic activity and the mediating influence of mate preference. For this purpose,we conducted an experimental method to investigate the relationship between these three. In the first study, the image priming paradigm was used to study 60 subjects.Under the priming of different attractive faces, word types were identified, recording the response time and accuracy, and gender differences were compared. In the second study, the number of subjects was 145.First,the images of the opposite sex face attractiveness were consciously processed, followed by prosocial behavioral tendency scale and mate preference assessment, and the construction of model among the three factors. That is the influence of facial attractiveness on altruistic behavior--the mediating effect of mate preference. Finally, based on empirical research,an open interview is added to supplement and explain the unrevealed contents. The results were as follows :(1)The response time of different word types was significantly different, and the response time of altruistic words was considerably lower than that of neutral words.(2)Under the activation of different attractive face images, female subjects' response to altruistic words was mostly significantly lower than that of male subjects.Still, there was no significant difference in the scores of male and female subjects in the prosocial behavior tendency scale.(3)For male and female subjects, altruism vocabulary perceptual discrimination is affected by high attractive faces start, but the difference is that highly attractive face images to speed up the female participants on altruism perception to recognize words, male participants,by contrast.(4)Male and female subjects have significant differences in mate preference assessment of different attractive face pictures;that is,the mate preference caused by highly attractive face is significantly higher than that caused by low-attractive face pictures.(5)The male and female subjects had significant differences in the scoresof the altruistic behavior questionnaire after the consciousness processing of different faces with high and low attractiveness. The questionnaire scores of highly attractive faces were significantly higher than those of less attractive faces.(6)When the subjects are male, mate preference played a partial mediating role in facial attractiveness and altruistic behavior questionnaire scores. When the subjects are female, mate preference has no significant mediating effect between facial attractiveness and altruistic behavior questionnaire scores.(7)In the qualitative interview, the factors influencing altruistic behavior were supplemented from the relationship level.Altruistic behavior has the function of improving interpersonal relationship and is also a choice for people to build new interpersonal and social relationships. And the effect is more pronounced in men.
