| In the teaching of Chinese as a second language, the learning and mastery of vocabulary is an important process that always accompanies the learners, and it is the basis and the essential for learners to improve their understanding and expression of Chinese.Texts in teaching materials as templates for learning, have a great impact on students’ vocabulary learning and applying. Therefore,it’s necessary to research on textbooks and vocabulary in texts. With the development of research methods, the study of vocabulary in textbooks in recent years is more and more inclined to start from quantitative research methods.Among the characteristics of word,“length” is one of the most basic and easily quantifiable structural attribute, and it is also a hot spot in studies of quantitative linguistics.Thethesisis guided by theories and methods of quantitative linguistics.Based on the words in texts of elementary, intermediate, and advanced comprehensive courseof the “Developing Chinese”(Second Edition)series.By constructing the text corpus, and with the help of data acquisition and analysis related software. The thesis investigates and analyzes the distribution features of word length in different levels of texts. And explores the rule of text word length distributionaccording to features, and provides suggestions for selection of words in textbooksand vocabulary teaching. This thesis comparatively analyzes the word length distribution features of the texts at different levels in the comprehensive course of “Development Chinese”(Second Edition). It mainly examines the distribution features of dynamic and static word length in texts, calculates typical statistical indicators of word length distribution, describes the change of average word length in the text, tests the relationship between word length and average word frequency, and discusses the relationship between the difficulty of the text and the distribution features of the word length. The result of the word length analysis in this thesis is that the distribution features of the word length can reflect the difficulty gradient of the text. And the distribution of long and short words in the text of different levels of “Developing Chinese” is reasonable.Data modeling further validates the rationality and persuasiveness of the analysis. The unifiedmodeling of length in languagehas been used to model the word length distribution data of the selected texts, and a fitting experiment has been performed. It is found that the dynamic and static word length distribution of the text can be fitted to the “Zipf-Alekseev” model. The change of parameter a in the model is related to the increase of average word length. The fitting experiment of the model verifies that the unified modeling of length in language can explain the relationship between the word length and the word frequency of Chinese textbooks.By investigating the words in text of Chinese textbooks from the perspective of word length,it can be found the law of evolution of the word length distribution in text language, which provides new idea for vocabulary study and teaching in Chinese textbooks. The quantitative research of word length in Chinese textbooks has also enriched the study of Chinese quantitative linguistics related to word length. |
