Due to unequal among the men and women in reproductive reproduction, women tend to choose a man with good genetic.Previous studies have shown that being tall and adventurous can represent good genetic traits,so women favor tall and adventurous men when choosing a mate. Therefore,in the marriage market, short men are disadvantage, but previous studies have shown that in same-sex competition, short men will adopt adaptive strategies. So,this study hypothesized that when short men's courtship motivation is activated, their risk-taking will increase in the future. In study 1,the effects of the interaction of trait courtship motivation and height cues on male risk-taking behavior were investigated by testing the level of trait courtship motivation. It was found that short participants with high trait courtship motivation showed strong risk-taking in order to win in mate selection.Study 1 measured the intrinsic trait courtship motivation of subjects,so in experiment 2,the situational courtship motivation of individuals was activated by watching the video of courtship clues. The results showed that the participants showed the strongest risk-taking under the condition of courtship initiation. This study shows that when mate selection is disadvantage, short men show adventure to compensate for their height disadvantage, which is a behavioral strategy aimed at mate selection.
