Teaching of reading and writing has been divided into two independent parts for a long time.Prof.Wang Chuming,in 2010,raised a completely new kind of writing task—Continuation Task whose validity of enhancing students' reading and writing ability has been proved by more and more empirical researches.In 2012,based on former studies,Prof.Wang Chuming formally proposed “Continuation Theory” which made continuation task is no more a kind of pedagogic method but a kind of theory.Compared with traditional ways of teaching writing,continuation task is more effective and comprehensive to test the proficiency level of students.And that is why it was used in college entrance examination in Zhe Jiang province for the first time in China in2016.Previous studies mainly focus on the impacts of high-level English learners.This dissertation,guided by the theories of “input hypothesis”,“output hypothesis”,“interaction hypothesis”,based on former researches,was conducted in a middle school in Changsha by adopting questionnaire,experiment and interview to investigate the following two questions:(1)What are the effects of continuation task on the content richness,text coherence,language accuracy of middle school students' writing?(2)What is the duration of the effects on middle school students' writing?The result of this study indicate that:Continuation tasks is a pedagogical approach of writing united with reading comprehension which can not only combine language input with output,but also connect imitation with creation,learning companies using will be most able to stimulate the desires of writing.Compared with traditional writing teaching,continuous writing can better promote the learning of junior high school students' English writing in content richness,writing coherence and language accuracy,and the positive effects are persistent.However,due to the limitation of place and time,there are two limitations in this study: one is the sample size and the duration of the experiment.The experiment only lasted for 6 months,the sample size was just 80.The second is that the types of composition used in the three tests are not continuation task in view of the fact that the control class did not take continuous writing training,which may have an impact on the experimental results.Therefore,the future research can extend the experimental time and increase the sample size,and reduce the interference of possible factors.
