In recent years,acting as a network symbolic language,WeChat stickers have enjoyed great popularity among people in the world,and this has become an emerging phenomenon for communication under the cultural context of internet.The design in this paper hopes to provide a new idea for the promotion and popularization of the intangible cultural heritage of Hunan opera by exploring the application of new media and internet technologies.At the same time,the combination of the intangible cultural heritage of Chinese opera and modern methods of communication in the process of creation is helpful to arouse people’s interest in Chinese opera during their daily communication as well as to promote the development and inheritance of this intangible cultural heritage.This paper takes the intangible cultural heritage of the local opera in Hunan as its study subject,and some Chinese operas as it source of design,such as the flower drum opera Woodcutter Liu Hai in Hunan,Hunan opera called The Story of Pipa,Kun opera Peony Pavilion of Hunan and Wangcheng Shadow Play,etc.In this paper,different stickers are createdaccording to the protagonists in these operas with different themes as well as their contents.During the creation,this paper summarizes the characteristics of the representative local operas in Hunan,and explores the methods to combine the elements of Chinese opera with modern design.On the basis of this,the paper showcases these operas through stickers,which can not only display the cultural characteristics of the local opera,but also open up new space to promote the intangible cultural heritage of Chinese opera.This paper falls into six parts.The first part explains the background,purpose,significance,current situation,content and method for the research about sticker design for Chinese opera in Hunan.The second part illustrates the intangible cultural heritage of Hunan opera.It also explores the general situation of this intangible cultural heritage and briefly introduces four kinds of Hunan operas.The third part carries an exploration about the design principles and methods,among which,there are such four design principles as enjoyment,aesthetics,culture and contemporaneity and there are three design methods,including the collection,extraction and application of elements.These principles and methods of design are also applied to this research.The fourth partdesigns some relevant WeChat stickers,based on which,it carries a deep analysis on them.Finally,in this part,the stickers that have been designed are presented through a visual way.The fifth part demonstrates the application of stickers in creative cultural products.The sixth part concludes the innovation points in this paper and looks ahead the direction for improving its design in the future.
