| Since the Great Geographical Discovery in the 15th century,Spain and the other European countries promote the colonial expansion activities in the whole world,whose influence is unprecedented.While for China in Ming and Qing Dynasties,its level of cognition of Spain,transformed from ignorant to mature.This process contains many ups and downs.Through the history of the country’s translated designation plays an irreplaceable role in understanding the evolution of China’s cognition in Spain during the Ming and Qing dynasties.This article mainly discusses chronologically and in the following periods:the era before Ming Dynasty,eve of the Great Geographical Discovery,Chinese self-imposed isolation period and after the Opium War.Through examining this historical process,this paper extracts two clues:Firstly,the Chinese gradually open their eyes to the world and this long-term historical phenomenon has a direct impact on the change of translation names;Secondly,the potential significance behind the changes in translation names is the changes about the influence of civilizations or countries.This article will research a series of translated name of Spain in Ming and Qing Dynasty,on their background,meaning,effect and implication,for exploring the cognition evolution of China to Spain in this era. |
