At the beginning of the 20 th century, the Chinese began the prelude to writing the history of Chinese literature. As a pre-Qin classic, the Book of Songs entered the narrative ranks of this style of writing at the beginning of the history of literature. It has been accompanied by the growth of "the history of Chinese literature".During this period, the writing of the Book of Songs in the history of Chinese literature was influenced by the social changes and academic atmosphere at that time. From the traditional Book of Songs to the modern study of the Book of Songs, from "Confucian classics" to "literary classics",this transformation has shown a periodical characteristic in the history of literature. Therefore, this paper is divided into three stages in chronological order, with the May 4th Movement and the Anti-Japanese War as the boundaries,to see the process of literary canonization in the history of Chinese literature compiled by the Book of Songs in different periods. The first chapter is the introduction of the Book of Songs into the history of Chinese literature(1900-1919).It first discuss how the writing form of "History of Chinese Literature" took place in China, and how it was compiled in the early stage under the guidance of traditional literary concepts; Then it sees the continuation of the traditional book of songs in the history of literature from the three aspects including the position of the Book of Songs in the history of literature, the definition of the nature of the Book of Songs and the classification of the Book of Songs. The second chapter introduces the new changes of the Book of Songs in the history of literature(1920-1936).Since the May 4th Movement, the writing of Chinese literary history has achieved great development and prosperity, which is mainly reflected in the sudden increase in the number of literary history compilations, the streamlined narrative scope of literary history under the concept of modern literature, and the formation and evolution of the historical outlook on literature At the same time, the academic research on the Book of Songs has gradually completed the transformation from the traditional study to the modern study. The writing of the Book of Songs in the history of literature is also very different from the past.It is manifested in the aspects of the change of the status of the Book of Songs in thehistory of literature, the establishment of the literary character of the Book of Songs, the classification of the Book of Songs based on content, and the exploration of the literary and artistic characteristics of the Book of Songs. The third chapter is the new interpretation of the Book of Songs in the history of literature(1937-1949).Under the influence of the war during this period, the compilation of Chinese literary history was lonely and its number plummeted. In addition, many historical works of literature during this period were obviously copied from the predecessors and no obvious characteristics in the writing of The Book of Songs. Therefore,in this chapter, the author selects two literary histories of higher quality and more respected by the academic circles including Liu Dajie’s “History of Chinese Literature Development” and Lin Geng’s “History of Chinese Literature”,and looks at the depth of interpretation of the Book of Songs from various historical perspectives, and the beauty of interpretation of the Book of Songs from poetic wisdom.
