| In the current situation with globalization being deepened,the overall national strength and international influence of China have increased continually,and the era significance of committing to “go global” strategy gradually emerges.How to further expand foreign cultural exchanges and strengthen China's discourse power in the global arena is an important issue to effectively enhance national cultural soft power and the international influence of Chinese culture.With China as the host,The XXIV World Congress was held successfully in Beijing in August,2018,and the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations was held in Beijing in May,2019 with great achievements.And,the Chinese Academic Translation Project(CATP),as a solid platform promoting the steps of China's philosophy and social sciences academic researches heading towards the world,has made remarkable achievements since its establishment in 2010.CATP not only helps foreigners to understand outstanding leading-edge results of China's social sciences researches and strengthens the contact between Chinese scholars and international academic circle,but also further inherits and develops Chinese excellent culture and national spirits.As an attempt of research,this translation report is just conducted in such a background with a positive meaning.In order to perform an attempting exploration,the writer selects chapter XII and a part of chapter XIII of A Treatise of Confucian Virtue,the latest work written by the famous contemporary philosopher Chen Lai in 2019,to carry out a translation practice from Chinese to English.The writer composed a translation practice report in combination of the difficulties in translation and concluded translation strategies and experience.The translation material selected by this report is classified in the field of philosophy,and therefore,it contains lots of terminologies,rigorous and complex sentence structures and meticulous logics,those typical features of philosophical texts.And at the same time,the translation material also cites many sentences from Chinese ancient classics,which endows the source text with a profound cultural foundation and a sense of beauty.The Analysis on the translation process is carried out from three perspectives—linguistics,culture and aesthetics.The research emphasis lies in how to properly and precisely deal with the meaning and information successfully at the level of linguistics;how to use the hermeneutic motion theory to enhance the subjective initiative of a translator,make compensation at both linguistic and cultural level and realize the significance balance between the source text and the target text;and how to use the reception aesthetics theory to deeply trigger the leading role of readers in translation and reduce the aesthetic loss in translation from the perspective of recipient.Through this translation practice and the writing of relevant translation practice report,the writer further knows about the text features of philosophical texts and Chinese classics and masters the core ideas of Confucian virtue theory;and based on the hermeneutic motion theory and the reception aesthetics theory,multiple translation strategies and techniques are applied by the writer to solve the difficulties during translation,and a certain progress has been made as for the writer's translation ability.In consideration of the writer's limited translation practice,deficiencies are more or less inevitable.The writer hopes that this report can provide references to some extent for scholars who study the translation of philosophical academic texts and Chinese classics and translation amateurs. |
