Qingdao is a national historical and cultural city and a scenic tourist resort in China.In Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO)Qingdao Summit in 2018,Qingdao was a major city to make its debut on the international stage,attracting lots of tourists at home and aboard which requires higher quality English versions of tourist texts.There are many books introducing the scenic spots in Qingdao.Among them,a book named as Cultural Journey to Qingdao,China introduces the famous scenic spots in Qingdao in details,including their geographical location,customs and characteristics to their history and culture.The expressive words and scattered sentences in the source text are full of distinct Chinese characteristics,with the source text not only paying attention to the transmission of information,but also to the spread of culture,which requires the balance between cultural heterogeneity and readability in translation.At the language level,English text pays more attention to conciseness and complete structure,and for that reason,the translator analyzes words and sentences with Chinese characteristics respectively and makes necessary adjustments and supplementation guided by the skopos theory according to the differences between Chinese and English,making the translation accurately convey information of the source text.At the cultural level,the source text contains a large number of contents relating to traditional Chinese culture,including language culture and historical culture,such as historical stories related to scenic spots.There are no expressions in English that directly correspond to the source text,which is also a difficulty in Chinese-English translation of tourism texts.Thus,on the basis of understanding the history and the context of the source text,the translator has an insight into the intention of the author of the source text to make the target text accurately and faithfully convey the historical culture to the target readers by adopting paraphrase,annotation and other translation methods.With the translation practice and report writing,the translator has a deeper understanding of the linguistic features and stylistic styles of Chinese and English tourism texts,accumulating skills and methods of tourism text translation and strengthening the use of translation skills,and hopes that this report has reference significance for Chinese-English translation of tourism texts.
